What first attracted you to the home building/construction industry?
To be honest, I accidently fell into it. But having been in the industry for over 6 years now, I love it so much and find it so rewarding that I couldn’t see myself doing anything else.
What’s one of the most memorable moments of your time in the industry?
I still remember my very first “flip” and how amazing it felt when I compared our before and after photos. Also the day we got our builders license was an amazing achievement.
What’s the best advice you’ve been given during your career?
Be honest, be open and don’t give up.
Who is your biggest mentor and why were they so important?
My business partner, Katina Law, who is an incredible business woman. She has helped me so much from all things financial, to managing staff and being brave enough to take risks. I wouldn’t have made it through the last few years without her.
What’s your favourite project so far? And why?
We recently completed a huge Rec Centre refurb at one of our retirement villages. It went from a very dated and worn out space to a beautiful light, bright and functional centre for the residents to enjoy and be proud of. We kept on time and on budget and the clients were over the moon at the results, as was Team Core!
What do you see as the biggest challenge facing the construction industry right now?
Being able to charge the margins that we deserve and need to continue making profit. It’s very competitive at the moment, especially in the retirement living space, which is what our business predominately focuses on (refurbs in retirement living). We have learnt the hard way that we are better off not doing a job than doing it at lower margins.
What’s something interesting about yourself that your work mates may not know?
I am the lead singer in a rock and roll band! 🙂
How has working with the team at The Professional Builder helped your business?
TPB have been instrumental in giving me the confidence to make the hard decisions and to be brave enough to take a chance, knowing that we have the support and resources from TPB.

Espresso Martini! (or a flat white with one sugar!).
