Carpentry Australia offers free NSW events aimed at tackling tradie shortages, well-being and inclusion across the trade.
Supported by Carpentry Australia & the Women in Construction program from NSW Government
Carpentry Australia is rolling out a series of free networking and professional-development events across New South Wales in June to help tradespeople sharpen their human resource skills, strengthen mental-health foundations and build a more inclusive industry culture. Through this we aim to both attract and retain talented chippys across NSW & Australia.

Why get involved?
- Jobs are going unfilled. Only 51.9 % of advertised technical and trade vacancies were filled nationwide in 2024 – the lowest rate of any occupational group. Construction Skills Queensland
- Inclusion unlocks talent. Women make up about 3 % of carpenters, leaving a vast pool of potential skill untapped. mates.org.au
- Well-being is critical. Each year around 190 construction workers die by suicide, making workers eight times more likely to take their own life than to die in a workplace accident.
- Community matters. More than 60 tradespeople attended Carpentry Australia’s recent Sydney Build Expo networking session, demonstrating strong demand for peer connection and knowledge-sharing.
By coming together – regardless of gender – tradespeople can close skill gaps, improve site culture and create safer, more sustainable businesses. All sessions actively welcome men as allies and champions for a better industry for everyone.
“These events give every carpenter, apprentice and builder – no matter their background – a chance to upskill, share ideas and look after their wellbeing,” said Jake McArthur, CEO of Carpentry Australia. “When the whole trade shows up, we solve our workforce shortages faster and build a better Australia.”
