Ford is raising the bar for mid-size pickups with the introduction of the Ranger Super Duty, a truck engineered for one thing: serious work. Set to hit Australian roads in 2026, this heavy-duty variant is purpose-built for the toughest jobs in construction, infrastructure and remote projects.

Heavy-Duty Capability From the Ground Up

With a 4,500kg gross vehicle mass (GVM), 4,500kg maximum braked towing, and an 8,000kg gross combined mass (GCM), the Ranger Super Duty isn’t just another ute—it’s a workhorse straight from the factory.

“The hardest-working fleet operators told us what they needed,” says Jim Baumbick, Ford’s vice president of advanced product development. “We’ve taken global mid-size truck capability to a whole new level.”

Built on a reinforced chassis with heavy-duty axles, differential locks, and upgraded suspension, this truck is designed to haul site equipment, tow heavy trailers, and conquer harsh terrain—whether that’s a remote access road or a crowded urban project.

Key upgrades include:

• Eight-stud hubs and stronger driveline components for durability
  
• Selectable drive modes for towing, mud, and rock crawling
  
• Integrated mounting points for tool storage, ladder racks, and service bodies
  

Tested to the Extreme

Ford didn’t just design the Super Duty—they put it through brutal testing at Victoria’s You Yangs Proving Ground and beyond. From 600kg of mud testing to corrosion baths, shaker rigs, and real-world off-roading, every component was pushed to its limit.

“We torture test our trucks to earn the name Super Duty,” says Baumbick. “The technology and methods we use come from the legendary F-Series program.”

Power, Endurance and Smarts

Under the bonnet is Ford’s 3.0-litre turbo diesel V6, tuned for long service life and EU6.2 compliance. Operators in high fire-risk areas will appreciate the ability to delay and manually control diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration—an important safety feature for rural and infrastructure work.

The Ranger Super Duty is also about going further and lasting longer:

• 130-litre long-range fuel tank
  
• High-strength steel bash plates and underbody protection
  
• Upgraded two-speed transfer case with F-Series-grade low-range gearing
  

And it’s smart where it counts. Features like Pro Trailer Backup Assist, Smart Hitch, and Onboard Scales make towing and payload management easier and safer on-site.

Built for Builders, Farmers, and First Responders

Ford designed this truck with Australia’s hardest-working industries in mind—construction, emergency services, resource projects and agriculture. The permanent 4A (Automatic 4WD) system ensures maximum traction, while high-mounted breathers and a sealed snorkel prepare it for serious off-road work.

“The Ranger Super Duty is the sum of all its parts,” says Dave Burn, chief program engineer at Ford Australia. “It’s built for those who need more capability, more durability, and more confidence when every job counts.”

Availability

Ordering opens later this year, with first deliveries in 2026. Expect multiple configurations—single, super, and double cab chassis—with the XLT variant offering long-distance comforts like alloy wheels and touring upgrades.
