Marketing Doesn’t End with a Post — It Starts with a Face

“You’re scared to show your face online.

You can’t sell a secret.”

— Anthony Kirby, BuildMentor

Scroll through most builder Instagram accounts and you’ll see a lot of houses.

And barely any humans.

But as Anthony Kirby pointed out in his latest appearance on The Good Builder Podcast, that might be the biggest mistake you’re making.

Because you can have the cleanest slab, the sharpest renders, the slickest logo — but if clients don’t know the people behind the build, they don’t trust the build.

“It’s arguably the easiest time in history to build a brand. You don’t need Yellow Pages, print ads or radio. Just your phone and your face.”

People Trust People. Not Posts.

The best builders understand something the average ones don’t: people don’t buy homes from companies — they buy from people they feel they can trust.

But that trust isn’t built with a logo. It’s built with you.

“I’ve got a guy in Newcastle — Sam Horn — who used to be terrified of the camera. Now? He’s a weapon. He’s booked out because he showed up, got better, and kept posting.”

Not Comfortable on Camera? Good. Do It Anyway.

Here’s the thing: no one starts out confident.

The builders who now seem natural on video? They started just like you — awkwardly holding a phone, fumbling their words, wondering who was even watching.

The difference? They didn’t stop.

“You just need to change one person. That’s it. You don’t need 7 million followers. You just need one person to see your face and go, ‘That’s my builder.’”

Still Not Convinced? Try This:

      • Post a quick walkthrough of a slab pour or a frame stage

      • Share a lesson you wish your clients knew before they started building

      • Record a voiceover over progress footage, explaining what’s happening

      • Better yet — just say thank you to a client on camera

No editing. No script. Just you.

Because here’s the truth: no one expects Spielberg. But they do expect honesty.

    Visibility Builds Authority

AK calls it like it is:

“You might be the best builder in town — but if you’re invisible, you’re no better than a rookie to the people who matter.”

Getting your face out there is no longer optional. It’s the price of entry if you want to compete in today’s market.

Don’t Wait to Feel Ready — Just Start

Your first post might suck. Your second might too. But by post number ten, you’ll be better. And the jobs will follow.

Because people don’t just want a home — they want a builder they feel connected to.

And that starts with showing up.
