When the results landed earlier this year, Creation Homes stood out as one of Queensland’s fastest-growing builders. A 58% lift in growth, multiple award-winning displays, and a Master Builders Award for one of their very first client homes.
It’s an impressive record for a relatively young company. But according to General Manager of Retail Sales, Tony Gall, success has little to do with chasing size.
“We don’t want to be Australia’s biggest builder. We don’t want to be Queensland’s biggest builder. We just want to build a good product, make profit, and have a really nice business.”
Controlled Growth, Not Chasing Headlines
Tony describes Creation’s approach as “controlled growing” a phrase that captures their strategy perfectly.
Starting just three years ago, it took twelve months to open their first display. Within another year, both of those first homes had won awards. Since then, the pipeline has expanded across Ipswich, Caboolture West, Providence, Rochedale and even a rare acreage display at North Harbour.
“We talk about growing organically with our display program. We’d like to think that we’re strategically working our way through.”
Rather than flooding markets with product, Creation has focused on the right displays in the right locations, and making them memorable.
The People Factor
Ask Tony what really drives results, and his answer is simple: people.
His coaching background, from leading Victorian state basketball teams to Australian junior camps, underpins his belief in team culture.
“You can’t build a business by yourself. It’s near on impossible. You need a team of people. And you’ve got to put the right people in the right spots.”
At Creation, that philosophy shows in the calibre of their leadership group: seasoned operators from Metricon, Simonds and Devine, supported by strong construction and sales managers.
“When I look at our leadership team, it’s experience that makes the difference… that’s why we can get things done.”
And it extends beyond leadership. Gall is big on ensuring every salesperson and site team member has the right support, rather than being left to sink or swim.
“You have to help your salespeople coach themselves. It’s not just ‘here’s a computer, off you go’. We want them to succeed.”
Building Trust With Clients
For a builder only two years into selling, Creation’s reputation is already anchored in client trust. Their first ever client build, a $400,000–$500,000 home on the Gold Coast, went on to win a Master Builders Award. That client, already working in the industry, has since become one of their strongest advocates.
“When you build for someone in the industry, the stakes are high. But the team did a great job, and the client’s been fantastic. It shows we’re on the right track.”
Lessons for Other Builders
Creation’s story is a reminder that success in today’s market isn’t about outgrowing the competition at all costs. It’s about:
- Controlled scaling — growing display by display, not overstretching
- Investing in people — putting the right individuals in the right roles
- Leveraging experience — drawing on leadership that’s worked at the big end of town
- Focusing on culture — making sure teams are supported, not left to fail
- Prioritising the client — delivering quality that earns trust and advocacy
“At the end of everything we do, there’s a customer at the end. Integrity, transparency, and communication are what matter most.”
The TGB Take
Creation Homes is proof that controlled growth beats fast growth. With 58% growth, award-winning product, and a culture built on coaching, Tony Gall and his team are showing what it means to scale smart.
For smaller and mid-sized builders, the lesson is clear: don’t try to be the biggest. Build a business that lasts.
