Since launching The Good Builder, we’ve had hundreds of conversations with builders, trades and suppliers right across the country.

What’s become crystal clear?

People are ready to talk.

We’re seeing site managers and apprentices open up. Business owners sharing their struggles. Whole teams creating space for check-ins and conversation.

Mental health isn’t a side conversation anymore — it’s becoming part of the way good businesses operate. And we couldn’t be more here for it.

Not Just About Tools, Timelines, and Turnarounds

Let’s be honest, this industry wears “tough” like a badge of honour. And for good reason. The work is demanding. The hours are long. The pressures are real.

But that toughness has often come at a cost.

We’ve heard from builders who’ve burned out and bounced back. From young tradies who didn’t know who to talk to. From leaders who now make mental health a core part of their weekly meetings — not just a poster in the lunchroom.

And through it all, we’ve noticed something powerful: when these conversations happen, the entire team gets stronger.

Jerseys, Golf Days and Real Conversations

One of the most talked-about campaigns we’ve run lately is the Gold Coast Titans Jersey Giveaway, not just because the jerseys are popular, but because they’ve become conversation starters on site.

Each one is tied to our fundraiser for TIACS, a free mental health support service built for tradies and workers in industries like ours. If you want to get involved or help someone else, donate or grab your jersey here:

We’ve also seen builders like Avia Homes step up with events like their Golf Day, a relaxed, no-pressure way to bring people together and remind us all that connection is more powerful than we realise.

When people show up — whether it’s for footy, golf, or a podcast chat — it normalises the conversation. And that’s where change begins.

So What Now?

This movement doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful.

It starts with asking your apprentice how their week’s going — and listening.

It starts with planning a brekkie shout instead of a rushed toolbox talk.

It starts with knowing that it ain’t weak to speak.

Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Back the TIACS campaign and share it with your crew
  • Wear a Titans jersey and make it a symbol of support
  • Show up to a TGB Friday (or help us host one)
  • Send us your story — we’ll help tell it through our podcast or site
  • Talk to your team — no agenda needed

Our Take

At The Good Builder, we’re here to spotlight what’s good in this industry — and that includes the people building better conversations.

Mental health isn’t a weakness. It’s part of what makes you a better boss, a better team member, a better mate.

We’re seeing real change. And it’s not slowing down.

So to every builder, apprentice, supplier and tradie showing up for yourself and your crew — we see you.

And we’re with you.

Let’s keep building better — together.
