Let’s be honest most of us aren’t scrolling through TED Talks at the end of a big day. But chucking on a good podcast while you’re behind the wheel, on the tools, or just barbecuing a brisket? That’s something else.
In the pod this morning, Az and Pete rattled off their go-to listens, the ones that’ve made them think, sharpened their businesses, or just fired them up when things got tough. We’ve pulled together their top picks and added a bit of context so you can have a listen yourself.
We haven’t really covered any of the classics like Joe Rogan or any well known local comedy duos like Hamish and Andy but this list is pretty decent.
Let’s get into it.
1. My First Million — Ideas that make you think differently
🔗 My First Million on Spotify
This one’s for the big thinkers. Hosted by Sam Parr and Shaan Puri, My First Million is all about wild business ideas that actually work. Az reckons it’s gold if you’re wired with that entrepreneurial streak.
“They put out this thing around Super Mario marketing — it made so much sense. It explained how marketing works like playing Super Mario. I was like, I get that.”
“You introduced me to those guys and I listen to them religiously. The Zuru Tech episode was super cool.”
Whether you’re dreaming up your next move or just want to hear how others made it, this one’s well worth your time.
2. The Game with Alex Hormozi — No excuses, just work
🔗 The Game by Alex Hormozi
Pete’s pick for when you need a kick in the pants. Hormozi’s not for everyone. He’s loud, intense, and doesn’t sugarcoat a thing, but if you’re trying to build a business or just need some motivation, he’s your man.
“If you need someone to tell you to stop complaining, suck it up, and call a hundred people… Hormozi is good for that.”
“He reminds me of the David Goggins of business. Like, ‘Harden the f*** up.’”
Az chimed in,
“Some people think it’s all hype, but he’s got some good stuff.”
Fair warning: don’t expect gentle affirmations. Do expect practical advice you can actually use.
3. Huberman Lab — Health and performance without the fluff
🔗 Huberman Lab Podcast
Hosted by Stanford neuroscientist Andrew Huberman, this is Az’s go-to for sleep, energy, and all things health. If you work long hours, this stuff actually matters.
“It demystifies a lot of the myths… what you should take, what you should do. It’s for performance, for sleep… just holistic health.”
“He’s got a website that’s AI-driven. You type in any question from his episodes, and it gives you a short clip with the answer. It’s brilliant.”
This one’s a bit sciencey, but it’s also super practical, especially if your body cops a battering during the week.
4. All-In Podcast — Big picture thinking for curious minds
🔗 All-In Podcast
A wildcard pick from Az, this one’s less “how to build a house” and more “what’s going on in the world”. If you’re into tech, trade, economics, or just want to hear billionaires argue about AI, this is for you.
“They’ve had Elon on. Trump too. One of them’s now the AI czar in the White House.”
“I love it. I get into it every Saturday while I’m hanging up the washing.”
Definitely not for everyone, but if you’re the kind of builder who likes to know what’s coming down the line, it’s a strong listen.
5. Other builder-led pods
All of the following come highly recommended from the boys:
🔗 The Level Up Experience (with Duayne Pearce)
🔗 The Mindful Builder
🔗 ToolShed
Pete wrapped it up by shouting out some local legends doing good work. These builder-led pods go deep on everything from mould management to passive house design to pricing jobs right.
“Duayne’s podcast is cracking good for the custom builder, but the lessons apply across the board.”
You’ll find ideas, challenges, and even a bit of drama. What more could you want?
Let us know what you think
Look, there’s no shortage of noise out there. But these pods have something different. Real advice, real people, and the kind of straight-talking you don’t get from textbooks or Instagram reels.
So the next time you’re heading to site, pulling a late one in the office, or even just mowing the lawn chuck one of these on. You might learn something that shifts your thinking, even just a little.
