More than 2,400 new homes have been approved across South East Queensland in a fast-moving shift under the Crisafulli Government, as urgent housing demand forces policy to turn into progress.

The largest release comes in the Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area (PDA), with 1,631 residential lots given the green light—expected to house over 4,500 new residents. The area, already one of South East Queensland’s most active growth corridors, will also see the development of a future state school, new retail precincts, and 330 hectares of open green space.

The approvals cement Flagstone’s position as a flagship growth zone and an increasingly important engine for both population and job growth.

“Flagstone is already home to more than 10,000 residents, growing by 40 new families each month,” said Troy Thompson, Development Director at Peet. “This approval enables us to continue building a precinct that’s not just about houses, but about lifestyle and community.”

Brisbane Land Opens Up Under New Strategy

Meanwhile, 782 new homes have been approved in Brisbane’s inner suburbs, including Indooroopilly and Milton—signaling a renewed focus on both infill development and build-to-rent housing models designed to increase supply without compromising location.

According to Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie, the current government is addressing housing supply issues head-on, after what he describes as years of underperformance under the former Labor Government.

“We’re unlocking land and accelerating housing approvals in areas that desperately need them,” Bleijie said. “In places like Flagstone, construction is already underway. And in Brisbane’s inner suburbs, we’re providing affordable housing options through build-to-rent, making better use of existing urban footprints.”

A Turning Point for Builders

Flagstone’s continued development is now matched by fresh access to Brisbane land—a combination that offers opportunities for volume builders, civil contractors, and boutique custom home builders alike.

The Flagstone approvals will see 500 new homes delivered annually, with supporting infrastructure baked into the plan from day one. At the same time, Brisbane’s rezoned inner suburbs reflect a clear intent to bring medium-density housing closer to jobs, transport, and education.

“We’re delivering a place to call home for more Queenslanders,” said Bleijie. “From first-home buyers in Flagstone to downsizers in Brisbane, we’re building communities that meet a diverse set of needs.”
