Rockhampton is the latest regional centre to benefit from the Crisafulli Government’s landmark Residential Activation Fund, with $27.58 million in funding announced to support three infrastructure projects that will unlock over 3,600 new homes.

This investment is part of round one of the $2 billion Fund, now doubled from its original size due to overwhelming demand,  aimed squarely at breaking down the infrastructure barriers holding back new housing supply.

Where the Money Is Going

Parkhurst Residential Enabling Infrastructure Project

A $17.26 million injection will go toward this $23 million initiative, including a 1.8km extension of Alexandra Street, set to open up hundreds of lots across Western Parkhurst. This road is more than bitumen — it’s the critical missing link that transforms planning approvals into shovel-ready housing delivery.

North Rockhampton Sewage Treatment Plant – UV Disinfection Facility

$9.75 million will fund major upgrades that ensure safe, sustainable growth in one of the region’s key population centres.

Limestone Creek Trunk Sewerage Network – Stage 1

Planning and detailed design works will prepare this future project for delivery, ensuring a pipeline of housing growth beyond 2025.

Why It Matters for Central Queensland

With more than 50% of the Residential Activation Fund earmarked for regional, rural, and remote areas, Rockhampton is set to become a model for how councils and state governments can work together to break ground faster.

This isn’t just about big-picture growth — it’s about solving real-world housing pressures that are impacting jobs, workforce attraction, and affordability across the region.

“This is having a real impact in people’s lives and in our community,” said Rockhampton Mayor Tony Williams.

“We developed our Housing Infrastructure Priority List to stay on the front foot, and I’m pleased all three of our applications were funded.”

A Political Reset: A Regional Voice in Action

The message from the Crisafulli Government is pointed — regional Queensland is no longer an afterthought.

Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie called the Parkhurst project a transformative step:

“This project will reshape the housing landscape in Central Queensland and finally deliver on long-standing housing approvals that have sat idle for too long.”

Donna Kirkland, Member for Rockhampton, added:

“This is the kind of partnership that was missing under the former Labor Government. We’re now seeing real commitment to building in the regions.”

Nigel Hutton, Member for Keppel, reinforced the broader goal:

“More Queenslanders deserve a place to call home — and that starts with clearing the path to build.”

What’s Next for Builders?

With infrastructure dollars now flowing, builders operating in the Rockhampton region should be sharpening their pencils. This is a clear opportunity to get involved in:

  • Greenfield development opportunities in Parkhurst
  • Partnerships with council for future stages of trunk sewer work
  • Workforce-ready housing builds to support local employment and services

The door is wide open for those with capacity, capability, and community vision.

The Bigger Picture: One Million Homes by 2044

This funding round is part of the Crisafulli Government’s broader Securing Our Housing Foundations Plan, which commits to delivering one million new homes by 2044.

And Rockhampton? It’s now locked in as a key player in that statewide vision.
