Today marks the launch of something special: TGB Fridays.

More than a meet-up, TGB Fridays is a movement — a growing initiative from The Good Builder that brings builders, suppliers, and trades together for connection, conversation, and a bit of well-earned downtime.

But let’s be real — this isn’t just about a brew and a bite.

It’s about creating space for better conversations in an industry that desperately needs them.

Why We’re Doing This

Behind the job sites, handovers, and never-ending schedules, there’s a quieter crisis playing out in the construction industry.

  • Construction workers are 6 times more likely to die by suicide than in a workplace accident.
  • On average, one construction worker takes their own life every two days in Australia.
  • Young construction workers (under 25) are twice as likely to take their own lives compared to other young Australians. (Source: MATES in Construction, ABS)

These aren’t just statistics — they’re mates, crew members, business owners, apprentices, and tradies doing it tough, often without saying a word.

At The Good Builder, we believe in shining a light on that silence. And TGB Fridays is one small, tangible way we can start changing the story.

Our First Event Kicks Off on the Sunshine Coast

With the help of some incredible TGB Community Partners, our very first TGB Fridays event launches today on the Sunshine Coast.

We’re putting on food, drinks (not necessarily alcoholic), and a relaxed atmosphere where builders and suppliers can connect — all in support of TIACS (The Home of Blue Collar Counselling), the free mental health support service founded by the team at TradeMutt.

GET YOUR TICKETS HERE (UNLESS SOLD OUT)

A huge thanks to our Sponsors MyConstruct, HazardCo, OpenLot, Lauxes Grates and Sunshine Mitre 10.

What’s Next?

This is just the beginning.

We plan to roll out TGB Fridays across the country, helping break down stigma, build relationships, and show that supporting mental health doesn’t always need to look like a helpline — sometimes it’s a chat over a snag.

If you’re a supplier who wants to get involved, or a builder keen to attend the next one, we want to hear from you.

Let’s keep building something better together.

When the Business Goes Under, the Family Goes With It

Behind every insolvency statistic is a person. Usually a couple. Often a family. The construction industry talks constantly about cashflow and contracts. It almost never talks about this. In 2024, more than 3,200 construction companies in Australia entered insolvency...

The Number That Should Stop the Construction Industry in Their Tracks

There is a number that sits behind every conversation about mental health in the Australian construction industry, and it does not get said often enough. On average, a construction worker takes their own life every two days in Australia. Not per week. Every two days....
