“We have quite a strict application process,” franchise support leader Sarah explained on The Good Builder podcast. “We do not want to bring the wrong people on board. We do not want to set anyone up to fail.” 

In a market where many franchises prioritise growth at all costs, Goop Guys has chosen the opposite approach. It selects people based on mindset, values and drive rather than background or trade experience. When discussing what makes a strong candidate, Sarah does not mention trade skills, industry contacts or financial capacity. She focuses on attitude.

“We are looking for people who are driven, who want to build something successful. They are willing to work hard and they are not going to sit back and wait for it to come to them.” 

Goop Guys has accountants, engineers and even a nurse operating successful franchises. The business does not rely on a specific background. It relies on the belief that the right person will commit to learning, follow the systems and uphold the brand.

As Sarah explained:

“It is still family owned and operated. There is that family connection. It is not just another franchisee or another number.”
