Building Quality You Can Prove

In an era where builders are judged by every detail not just structure and style but also finish and presentation, quality assurance (QA) has become the make-or-break stage of a project. But while most builders have digital QA systems and checklists, few protect the very thing they’re auditing: the finished surfaces themselves.

That’s where Goop Guys, led by Shane and Kirstee Copley, are redefining what QA looks like on site. Their water-based, peelable coating is increasingly being built into formal QA processes, not as a clean-up tool, but as a defect-prevention mechanism.

The Cost of Missed Details

Across Australia, data from post-handover reviews shows that surface damage accounts for nearly half of all client-reported defects. These include scratched glass, chipped tiles, benchtop scuffs, and paint overspray, issues that, while minor individually, cost time, money, and reputation.

One national residential builder surveyed their service department and found that rectification of surface defects cost them up to 4% of the contract value of a home and delayed handovers by up to five working days.

When builders began integrating Goop into their QA stage planning, those costs dropped significantly.

Turning Protection into Process

“Quality control isn’t just about inspection; it’s about prevention,” says Shane Copley, co-founder of Goop Guys. “Our product gives supervisors a way to physically lock in the quality they’ve already achieved.”

Goop coatings are applied during the pre-fit-off stage and logged as a QA line item meaning the site manager can record that key surfaces are sealed and protected before the next trades move in.

When removed at handover, the clean, untouched surface becomes tangible proof that the QA system worked as intended.

Supervisors using digital QA platforms are now including Goop application photos as part of their compliance documentation. “It closes the loop,” says Copley. “You’re not just checking that it’s clean, you’re proving it’s been protected the whole way.”

Real-World Results — What Builders Are Saying

“Thermal Impact has recently switched to Goop Guys to protect glass and frames on large projects. Not only does it ensure our products are protected from damage during the construction process, it enables our clients (the builder) ease of cleaning with Goop and tape peeling straight off with little to no cleaning at handover.” — Juyale John, Project Manager, Thermal Impact

“I can’t recommend the Goop Guys enough. Their glass protection products are great and can save you heaps of money if accidents happen. Since we started using the Goop Guys, I couldn’t imagine not using them. They even take the time to tape all of the door and window sills. The Goop Guys’ services are an integral part of us producing the highest-quality custom homes.” — John Taylor, Director, Oceanview Constructions

Linking QA to Client Satisfaction

Customer-experience surveys mirror this. Builders who incorporated surface protection into QA workflows reported 25–30% higher client satisfaction scores post-handover, driven by fewer visual defects.

“Clients judge quality with their eyes first,” says Kirstee Copley. “If the glass, tiles, and cabinetry are spotless, it sets the tone for the entire handover.”

In short, Goop converts invisible quality into visible professionalism.

Raising the Standard

Tier-2 builders, franchise networks, and luxury custom builders are now specifying Goop as a mandatory QA step.

Some insurers and warranty providers have also begun recognising proactive surface protection as evidence of risk mitigation, further incentivising adoption.

“We see QA differently now,” says one site manager from a major Queensland franchise. “Goop is as essential as a moisture test. It’s a control measure, not just a clean-up.”

The Good Builder Take

For builders serious about quality systems, prevention is the new inspection. Goop Guys’ surface protection has become a measurable part of QA; cutting defects, saving rework, and making handovers flawless.
