Let’s be honest; most builders and tradies don’t always jump at the thought of a “conference.” But what if it was actually built for you? No fluff, just real advice, helpful tools, and a chance to get ahead in a shifting industry.

That’s exactly what’s on offer at the Builders & Trades Business Owners Conference, a free one-day event on Friday, 4 April, at McClelland Sculpture Park & Gallery in Langwarrin.

What’s the story?

Frankston City Council is putting on this event for local builders, tradies, and suppliers who want to make 2025 their best year yet. It runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is completely free to attend.

You’ll hear from seasoned pros and industry groups like HIA, Master Builders, the Australian PassivHaus Association and Home Innovations, plus software providers who are helping small businesses work smarter, not harder.

This isn’t about selling you anything. It’s about showing you what’s working, from sorting your P&L to standing out in the market and building a reliable crew.

Here’s the low down

Three big-ticket topics are on the agenda:

  • Simplified P&L – Learn how to read the numbers without falling asleep. Know what’s coming in, what’s going out, and what that means for your bottom line.
  • Win more jobs – There’s work out there, but competition’s tight. Find out how to stand out without compromising your bottom line.
  • Build a dream team – Good staff and subbies are worth their weight in gold. Get tips on hiring well, keeping people engaged, and not losing them to the guy down the road.

You’ll also hear from ASPIRE, BuiltGrid, Send a Tradie and Wunderbuild — four Aussie tech platforms that help small businesses quote faster, communicate better, track jobs, and even reduce waste.

Most small to medium sized operators don’t often get time to step back and think about the big picture, or take a day out of the office or away from site, but sometimes hitting pause for a day gives you a nudge in the right direction.

If you’re stuck chasing your tail, not quite sure where the money’s going, or struggling to find good people, this could be the most valuable day you spend away from site and off the tools all year.
