Not everyone gets excited about expos and conferences as they do golf days. Fair enough. We get it. But Sydney Build Expo 2025 might be one worth sticking your nose into and not just for the free merch and nibblies.
If you’re serious about staying sharp, making good connections, and keeping pace with the way building is changing, this one’s a no-brainer.
Also, we will be there! So come and say hi!
What’s the story?
Sydney Build Expo is back on 7–8 May at the ICC. It’s the biggest construction and design event in Australia — pulling 25,000 people, 600 exhibitors, and a monster lineup of 550+ speakers across 15 stages.
Sounds big? It is. But the beauty of it is you can pick your spots.
You don’t have to wander around aimlessly either. Some of the best action is happening off the main floor — in the workshops, the speaker sessions, and the special networking hubs.
And the best bit? It’s free.
Let’s be real. There’s no shortage of change coming at the building game — new tech, sustainability, and innovation. If you’re building, designing, project managing, or swinging the tools, you need more than just muscle memory to stay ahead.
Sydney Build gives you the rare chance to:
- Grab CPD-accredited workshops (without sitting through a boring webinar)
- Catch real-world tips from tradies, business owners, architects, and tech heads
- Meet good people who actually know what they’re talking about
- Scope out new kit and products without the hard sell.
There’s a few parts of the expo we reckon you shouldn’t miss:
Educational Workshops
You can roll straight into short, sharp workshops on everything from building well-being into construction to modern materials and sustainability.
They’re practical. They’re free. And you’ll actually walk away with something useful.
Networking Events
If you’re tired of swapping LinkedIn profiles over a stale beer, there’s proper stuff happening:
- Meet the Buyers – chat directly with procurement teams looking for contractors.
- Architects Hub – see real projects, not just pretty renders.
- Women in Construction and Diversity in Construction meet-ups – good conversations and better connections.
Speakers to Watch
We’ve had a squiz at the agenda, and a few names jumped out:
- Kellie Payne (AIQS President) talking about smart costing and future skills.
- Michael Vavakis (ex-Lendlease heavyweight) on better leadership.
- Sarah Lawrance (Hot Toast Finance) cutting through the finance mess for tradies and small builders.
- Kristy Withers (Incy Interiors Founder) on brand building and growth in a tough market.
There are plenty more too.
Across the industry, there’s a real shift towards builders running smarter businesses — not just bigger ones. Skills shortages, sustainability demands, and a tough economy are forcing the hand.
In a recent piece from the HIA, they reckoned staying across tech and compliance shifts could be the make-or-break difference for small builders over the next few years. Sydney Build is one place where you can spot the changes before they hit you.
What should you watch for?
The event’s Tradies Hub is new this year — with sessions aimed squarely at the boots-on-the-ground side of the industry.
Topics like health and safety, mental health, tech on-site, and future skills are getting real attention.
There’s also a strong focus on digital construction and AI — not just for the big end of town, but real-world stuff you’ll see creeping onto your sites soon.
You don’t have to overhaul your whole business off the back of an expo.
But we reckon if you walk out with one good idea, one new mate, or one smarter way of doing something — you’re already in front.
